Operated by Linda Strickland with assistance from Amy and Clayton Kinsler, Acorn Acres Performance Horses take pride in the raising of quality all-around Quarter Horses to show and sell.

The foundation of our breeding program is The Big Smooth ('Sam'), a 1999 16.3 hand gray stallion. Originally purchased as a show prospect, Sam suffered a devastating break in his right front leg. Several veterinarians examined him, and all agreed that the break was impossible to repair, and that Sam should be put down. Hating to put such a promising young life to an end, Sam was rigged up in a cast and a sling and confined to his stall for several months. Lots of love and attention, along with Sam's exceptional disposition and willingness to accept and tolerate the frustration of being immobilized, resulted in a miraculous recovery for Sam. The veterinarians agreed they had never seen a break such as Sam had experienced heal itself. He recovered sane, sound, and sensible.

His show career was sacrificed, and Sam's career switched to becoming a breeding stallion.Sam has had a very limited foal crop. In his first year at stud he sired Oso Smooth and Classy, a big, beautiful bay roan filly who proved her potential by placing in the top ten at the Tom Powers in Open Longe Line. She also won the Limited Open at the Southern Belle, and was Co-Reserve Champion in Longe Line at the Indiana Futurity. Sam's colts that have been shown have points in Hunter Under Saddle, Showmanship, Halter, and even Western Pleasure.

Sam's babies are showing the size, disposition and quality of movement to be very competitive as all around horses. With their calm, quiet manner and natural way of going, they are well suited to youth and amateur riders. We are proud of the young horses we are producing, and invite you to stop by for a visit.
